This second album is the follow-up to Chorée, which was a suite for piano performed by Stéphane Ginsburgh. Though not a concept album per se, Is proposes a series of chamber music pieces whose logical succession has something to do with the Suite. Beside the ever-present Stéphane Ginsburgh, the musicians mostly come from Ensemble Ictus.

It all begins with the title piece, four movements for piano and doublebass. There is some Gavin Bryars in the approach, something suspended, with lots of ruptures and silences, like a jazz standard that constantly had to interrupt its progression. Passes is the magnum opus, a trio for piano, violin, and cello. This piece is light like a Debussy sonata, eschewing innovation at any cost; it retains a unique density, even after several listens. A peculiar form of contemplation and a great elegance are this piece's most beautiful achievements. Trois Temps morts is the sole work for piano. It should be approached as an introduction to the brilliant Salto - performed by the great Garth Knox of Arditti Quartet fame - the sinuous five-movement piece concluding the album perpetual movement-like and retaining the aerial, suspended feel that prevails throughout this set of new compositions.

Renaud De Putter
Composer, born in 1967 in Brussels. He studied composition with Philippe Boesmans. Highly independent composer, remote from any and all contemporary music trends and schools, he has opted to write sensitive, half-hued music free of compositional effects. This second stage is highlighted by an innovative diversification of the instruments and the appearance, in the heart of his compositions, of floral and botanical structures, along with an increasing fondness for silence.
