Folds & Rhizomes for Gilles Deleuze - naturally every release is important to us - but sometimes we have a feeling of particular urgency and importance. Folds and Rhizomes for Gilles dDeleuze is one of these instances. For various reasons - not least of which is the fact that it was thanks to Deleuze that Sub Rosa ever came into existence; that what is presented here was conceived for him by people whose works was profoundly inspired by his liberating ideas, and that it was thanks to the unending dialogue with him that everything materialised - we find ourselves today with the curious impression that it was almost Deleuze himself who produced this release. The story is all the more painful for the fact that this disc was intented as a surprise for him and that he chose to die before its completion. Let it not be mistaken for a tribute. this is a living work for the living ideas of someone named Gilles Deleuze.

'Fold and Rhizomes' (a title inspired by Gilles Deleuze's inpenatrable socio-philosophical work 'Mille Plateaux') is probably the pinnacle of ambient glitch music, before Mille Plateaux (as in the German label) among other caught on and injected a bit of funk into the genre.

This compilation is about introversion and isolation - many of the works here are the respective artists at their best. Main and Oval both turn in amazing studies in sound and space, Mouse on Mars bridge the gap between their early rhythm-based output and their later, more experimental work, while Scanner's 'Control' is frankly shit-your-pants spooky.

A fascinating document about mid-90s electronica, sounding both human and alien, electronic and organic.
