Italian Futurism (1909 to 1920) did not benefit from the impact of Russian Futurism (first months of 1912), which moved towards a radically new form together with an acceptable political form in its revolutionary beginnings - although it was preceded and modelled to some extent on Italian radicalism - albeit politically separated in the extreme.

There is no doubting the importance of Luigi Russolo, whose The Art of Noises (1913) was the foundation of a century of radically different listening. The 78t produced in 1921 was made with the active collaboration of his brother Antonio. Is is, moreover, the only recorded trace of the famous "intonarumori". Here we present sides A and B.

If Luigi Russolo did not compromise himself in the fascism and admiration of the Duce, the same cannot be said of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, who was however the leader and spokesman of the movement. Three pieces recorded from 1924 to 1931, relate both the beauty of the risky fight and a new way of perceiving beauty.

Amazing from start to finish. Sort of like encountering Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music for the first time, it's like stepping off a spiral staircase into the deep end of a whole 'nother universe of mysteries. "Triptik 2", the closer, is one of the most jaw-droppingly strange/hypnotic collisions of jazz, electronica, psychedelia and WTF I've ever heard - and yet it somehow works. Bought both volumes just on the strength of the first one & hoping there are many more to be issued. rocketmorton
